Make sure you pick a real Christmas tree of the right size. Pick one that is too big, and you will find that it crowds the place and leaves little or no space for other items. It also makes it difficult to place ornaments at the higher places.

Its best to go to the Christmas tree shop with the dimensions of your room, so that they can help you with getting the right size and shape Christmas tree to fit into your room.

One that you find in many Christmas tree shops is the Douglas Fir, that are known to be full and is usually a perfect pyramid or cone shaped tree. They have great shape and color, with firm branches from which to hand your ornaments. Other such Christmas trees are the Noble, Fraser and Balsam Firs.

There are other cone shaped Christmas trees like Scotch and Virginia Pines, Norway Spruce and the Eastern White Pine. They have short dense branches that are great for holding decorations and ornaments, lots of which you have collected over the years.

Its important not to buy the Christmas tree too early. Live trees should be displayed only for 3 weeks. Don’t buy the tree till about December 12 to 14 if you intent to keep the tree up until the New Year.

When buying the live Christmas tree, tap the trunk on the ground. It is dried out is it loses a lot of needles. Buy a freshly tree cut, if possible, as dried out live trees are fire hazards.

Make a fresh cut at the base of the trunk before placing it in the Christmas tree stand. Get the supplier to do this if you do not have the right equipment to do it.

Make sure that the  Christmas tree stand has enough water and the reservoir is full.Also, do not get a tree that may be too big for your Christmas tree stand, and cannot hold the tree securely. In that case, it is better to get a new tree stand.
